Foodex celebrates 10 years of Salon du Saké
Once again this year, we had the pleasure of taking part in the Salon du Saké, an event for all sake enthusiasts and professionals. For L’Atelier du Saké and Foodex, the event was particularly memorable, both for the richness of the exchanges and the quality of the encounters. Nearly a hundred visitors came every day throughout the event. Enthusiasts came to see us at the weekend, and curious professionals on Monday. This year’s event once again demonstrated the growing popularity of sake in France.
A traditional opening
One of the highlights of the show was the opening ceremony, where our sommelier, Maryam Masure, had the honor of participating in the Kagami Biraki ritual. This solemn moment, when the lid of a sake barrel is symbolically broken with a wooden stick, marks the official opening of the show and symbolizes prosperity and good fortune. It was a special moment for us, as it reflects the very essence of sake: an art rooted in tradition, while creating moments of sharing.
The invaluable presence of Mrs Miho Imada
This year, we were privileged to welcome Ms. Miho Imada, owner and brewmaster of the renowned Imada Shuzo brewery. Ms. Imada is not only a renowned sake producer, she is also an iconic figure in Japan, having been recognized as one of the world’s most influential women by the BBC in 2020 and by Forbes in 2022. Her unique brewing techniques, such as the use of a rice variety forgotten for over a century, result in sake of a rare quality.
Our sake on display this weekend
As every year, we presented our wide range of sake. Among them was Mio Clear, a semi-dry, finely sparkling sake with fruity apple aromas. In addition to our best-seller, it was the creations of Ms Miho Imada that particularly caught everyone’s attention.
The sake Seafood is distinguished by its lightness and freshness, with subtle lemony notes derived from the use of a white koji and fresh water from the Hiroshima region. As its name suggests, it’s a perfect match for seafood, but also for creamy cheeses and fruity desserts.
The sake Hattanso, meanwhile, won us over with its rich, full-bodied character, and simple, refreshing finish. This junmai ginjo, with its pineapple flavors, is ideal with seafood, white meats and grilled vegetables.
A prize to reward our loyalty
The Salon du Saké 2024 also marked an important moment: the celebration of its 10th anniversary. For us, this edition was all the more special in that we received the Loyalty Award. Indeed, L’Atelier du Saké has been an active participant in this event for nine years, almost since its inception. This award is a fine recognition of our commitment and passion for sake, and it’s an honor for us to see our contribution acknowledged in this way.
The Salon du Saké 2024 was a wonderful human and professional adventure for us. Every year, this event allows us to strengthen our ties with sake enthusiasts and professionals, but this year, the presence of Ms. Miho Imada and the recognition of our loyalty gave this edition an even more special flavor. We look forward to continuing this wonderful adventure with all of you, and to sharing our love of sake, always with the same passion and devotion.
